I became serious about photography in 1955, inspired by my first job at “The Yorkshire Evening News. I joined my first club the same year and from then to 2005, I was a darkroom nut, devouring books on photo techniques, attending exhibitions and lectures, etc.

Along the way I managed to have some success in competitions, exhibiting widely and collecting a few Distinctions along the way.

I was also interested in giving back something to this great hobby, being a judge and lecturer for the Yorkshire Photographic Union since 1968, joining their executive council in 1980, being Print Secretary from 1981 - 1994, President from 1989 - 1991, Exhibition Organiser from 1993 - 1994 and finally Life Vice President in 2011.

In 1979 Wilf Hall approached me to see if I would help him set up an invitation group to move on from the concept of Club competitions and become a a non-competitive, but active group. Each member seeking and giving inspiration to other members. This became the GAMMA Photo Forum in 1980 and I have been a member since its formation, holding the posts of Chairman and Members’ Day Organiser.

These days I take photographs (digital) to please myself and to support the GAMMA Exhibition and Yearbook.
